Jaime- Working Hard Earned Her Surprise Sponsorship

I had NO idea I was getting sponsored by Ascent Protein. NONE. I was just honored that Coach Dan asked me to bring my "biceps and smile" to a Thursday 6:00 pm class.  I really thought the photographer and videographer there were filming everyone. In truth, I'm still processing the experience. It does not seem real!

At first, I thought I was hallucinating when I saw Katrin Davidsdottir, 2x Fittest Woman on Earth. Here I am, surrounded by all my favorite people as well as the one person who epitomizes success in CrossFit. When Katrin glided toward me and touched my arm, it began to sink in. I was so excited just to be in her presence, never mind standing next to her, that it took me at least 10 minutes to find my words. When I did, I told her that I recently watched the "Behind the Scenes: 2016 Games" movie. I shared with Katrin that the part that resonated with me the most was how she described the relationship with her grandmother, and how she was determined to honor her grandmother's memory by winning the Games for the second time in a row. After I shared that with her, she grabbed me in a bear hug and exclaimed, "Now we are friends!" Katrin is a good human being. I am honored to have met her.

Before CrossFit, I do not have an athletic background. At all. In elementary school, I was forced to play softball. I’d close my eyes and pray that the ball would just magically fall into my glove every time I had to make a play. I was in Lane 6 on my high school swim team (the slowest lane). Then in college, I ate Sour Patch Kids and sat in the library. After college, I did some running here and there, but nothing consistently or noteworthy. I was not an athlete. I only started CrossFit at the age of 35 because I was bored. I have since learned that it is never too late to make a change! I am 40, and I am now an athlete. This is why I work so hard. I am better than I was, and I want to keep improving.

As far as goals are concerned, right now, I am actively working on improving my Olympic weightlifting skills. I know that if I can improve my form, I will be able to lift more weight as well as cycle through the movements more efficiently. I would like to enter a competition in the near future and be able to place in the top half :)
